December Idea of the Month

December seems like a good time to reflect on the past year. I've been very pleased with following "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes this entire past year to increase my spiritual practice and in sharing it with all of you each month.

December is the month of Light in "365 Science of Mind". Light is understanding. Light is wisdom. Light is spiritual guidance. Light is divine intelligence. We have all these within us. This is our opportunity to reflect on 2011 with greater understanding, with wisdom, with intelligence.

Once we know where we have been, we have a better understanding of where we are going and where we want to go. We all need to slow down, stop, take the time for some quiet reflection. Go into the silence and listen.

Happy Holidays to all!

November Idea of the Month

November is always associated with the Thanksgiving holiday. For most people it is all about food, family, football.

Which is all well and good. Especially if it makes the average person stop just for one minute and reflect on feelings of gratitude.

But we are seekers of spiritual growth. We want to be more than average. Thanksgiving and gratitude should be a daily practice. Is it for you?

Gratitude is acknowledging the workings of God in your life. It is recognizing the Power and the Presence. It is dwelling in the Spirit. It's a pause from our normal unconscious rushing-around living.

What a wonderful reminder.

Usually, we fixate on the ONE thing that is our latest problem. That means we ignore the thousands of things that are going RIGHT in our lives. I've done that. We've all done that.

Being grateful and thankful brings us back to those thousands of things. It makes us realize how blessed we are. We are blessed by God and we can show how much we appreciate it just by being thankful.

That's not too much to ask!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Until next time,
Namaste

The Passing of Steve Jobs

I join the world in mourning the loss of Steve Jobs. His unique expression of creativity can never and will never be duplicated.

He suffered from pancreatic cancer for 8 years.

As I watched the review of his life and accomplishments on many TV channels last night, it was mentioned that he sought out alternative treatment for his condition. Oh, how I wished he had found Religious Science in that pursuit. I'm not saying that if he had received Spiritual Mind Treatment from a Religious Science practitioner, that he would still be with us today. But it could have happened. He could have been healed.

Look up cancer and pancreas in Louise Hay's book "You Can Heal Your Life". Cancer is the repression of feelings, it is letting unexpressed feelings eat you up inside. Pancreas represents the sweetness of life. Something, at some point, took the sweetness out of Steve Job's life and he could not allow himself to express that.

In my opinion, it probably was when he was FIRED from his own company! Can you imagine? You found a company, it becomes big enough and successful enough that it needs a Board of Directors. And that Board turns around and pushes you out. Then when the company flounders without you and almost goes into bankruptcy, they come crawling back to you and begging you to come back. Which you do. And you turn the company around to become the first or second most valuable company in the world!

What does that say in general about the "corporate" mindset? Why do you think people are sick of corporations pulling crap like that. It is heartless behavior. And Steve Jobs, from what I know, said nothing of their treatment of him. He just came back and used his genius as he was meant to do.

He said his firing was the best thing that ever happend to him. I am not so sure. I think it was the beginning of his cancer.

Oh, how I wish he had found Religious Science.

Happy trails to you, Steve, on your new journey.

October Idea of the Month

This month, Ernest Holmes calls October the month of Fulfillment. It is the natural and inevitable end result of the Creative Process. Spirit, Mind, Intelligence must be expressed on the physical plane. That is the fulfillment. As we discussed in the feature article in this month's newsletter, there is a correct order of demonstration or fulfillment. We wonder why a certain thing does not demonstrate or manifest, it is because we are not following the correct order of the Creative Process as outlined by Jesus in the Bible.

We must "think rightly" as he says. What is that correct order? Read my article! Subscribe to our newsletter.

Then practice this order and see what wonderful things happen!

September Idea of the Month

In our free monthly newsletter, we discussed the designation of September as the month of Expectancy (as Ernest Holmes lays out in "365 Science of Mind").

I sort of speculated that the ninth month of the year is associated with 9 months of human pregnancy and a woman "expecting". You have to remember that this book was written in the 1950s! Was Ernest Holmes showing a little bit of dry humor?

At any rate, expecting your good is a crucial part of treatment work and demonstration. The fourth step in the 7 Step Spiritual Mind Treatment that I was taught and that we offer as an e-course at Conscious Kernels is "Simplify", which includes the idea that "what I expect to happen, happens". That simple.

Expectancy removes doubt. It removes hesitancy. All of which are important in training our consciousness to accept the good already given to us.

What if you started expecting good things to happen? You set out on a trip or a date or an appointment. What if you expected only good to happen in that experience -- before you went on that experience? I would suspect you would have a good experience!

Why not do a little experimenting with expecting good? As you grow more accustomed to expecting good, you will receive it. You will be training your subconscious to expect it, to look for it, to create it.

Now Good on all of you!

August Idea of the Month

This month we explore the August theme of "Vitality" from "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes.

Vitality is: "the power to live or grow; exuberant physical or mental vigor." Doesn't that sound like something you'd like to experience? Exuberant vigor! The power to grow! I sure do! I want to live every day with vitality and vigor.

The Spiritual qualities of life, power and joy are integral part of Vitality. I want to express life and power and joy all in one perfect, harmonious package.

Holmes writes: "I draw upon the Life that is mine. I know that the fullness of Life -- which is Divine in Its origin, eternal in Its presence, and forever available -- is mine. The Life of the eternal Spirit is my life. The infinite riches of Its being are mine to enjoy. The vitality, the wisdom and the peace of God are mine. I accept them in fullness, in joy, and in peace."

How will you express your Vitality this month -- and every month? Share your thoughts with us here or on Facebook.

Until next time,

July Idea of the Month

This month we explore the July theme of "Freedom" from "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes.

He writes: "Even the Spirit does not seek to control us. It lets us alone to discover ourselves."

And what is there to discover about ourselves? That we have freedom, dominion of our lives because we have the freedom and the dominion over our own thoughts. No one can make us think anything. No one can force their thoughts upon us. We choose what we think, at all times.

This is our freedom.

How are you using your freedom? Share your thoughts.

Daily Insight

I hope you have been joining me as we read the daily inspirational messages in Ernest Holmes' book: "365 Science of Mind". This practice has really become an important part of my increased understanding of Spiritual Reality.

Sometimes, I will read a sentence or two that is just so profound, I wish that I could instantly memorize it and remember it always! I've had a number of moments like these since January 1, when I started this practice.

Let me share just a short excerpt from the June 22 entry (he is talking about the all-intelligent, all-creative One Source, present everywhere: "I believe in the ability and the willingness of this great Source to sustain its own creation. The kingdom and the Power and the Glory of God are expressed through me. All that is necessary to my happiness and well-being now comes into my experience."

That first sentence really hit me: the ability and willingness of the Source to sustain its own creation. I am Its creation. It is able and willing to sustain me. Me. You are Its creation. It is able and willing to sustain you. What does that mean? The Source must sustain me. It must give me all I need. All I need for health, happiness, well-being, etc. I don't sustain me. It sustains me. That is powerful stuff.

There is no need to struggle for anything. There is nothing that denies you what you need. Think about that today. Do you give props to this ability? Or do you limit it and diminish it in your mind?

See if this one thought blows you over like it did me. Share your thoughts here or on our facebook page.

Until next time,
Namaste

June Idea of the Month

Let's catch up and discuss the June Idea of the Month.

In "365 Science of Mind" Ernest Holmes designates June as the month of Creativity.

The activity of Spirit is creativity. "And God created the heavens and the earth."

God created and creates everything through the Law. God is Divine Intelligence, First Cause, Universal Mind. The Law of Mind is the automatic, mathematically precise action of Spirit that brings into form, into substance from the undifferentiated substance.

Undifferentiated substance is the unseen, unformed "stuff" from which all forms come. Just think of it as such: we are surrounded and swimming and swirling in a sea of potentiality.

As discovered in Quantum Physics, all possibilities, all potentialities exist at any given moment. What selects one possibility from all the possibilities is consciousness, and that consciousness moves the Law into action to create the experience. Consciousness is our thoughts, our beliefs, our feelings, our strong convictions, plus the collective unconsciousness of thousands of years of human existence (known as race belief).

You are creative. You are just as creative as God Itself -- if you let yourself be, if you allow that Universal Creativity move through you.

The only thing we must decide is if we will create with an aware consciousness or with an unaware (sub) consciousness. The choice is yours.

What are your thoughts? Share them with us!

Until next time,

May Idea of the Month

My goodness, where did the month of May go? It is May 24, and I am just now posting the Idea of the Month on our website. Actually, I guess I just forgot!

Any way, the idea this month is in keeping with our year-long daily practice of reading and absorbing the incredible wisdom and spiritual knowledge found in "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes.

He designates May as the month of Joy. What a wonderful idea. Joy is the "emotion excited by the expectancy of good", according to Holmes.

Expecting good and only good. A tall order, but something we can work on in our journey of spiritual growth.

Lately I have been experiencing just the opposite. The "waiting for the other shoe to drop" syndrome. Having a small nagging feeling in the back of mind that something will go wrong. Like something breaking down. Something malfunctioning. Something getting worse. Something not getting better.

Some things have happened to me recently that have demonstrated this lesser thought. So now is the time to change my thinking before more sh*t happens! I must start expecting the good. I must start expecting only good with my health. I must start expecting only good with my home. I must start expecting only good with my possessions.

What are you expecting?

Resist Not

OK, so I have been resisting getting Conscious Kernels up on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. But as the Bible says "resist not". And I think AA says "what you resists, persists". And in keeping with the Science of Mind teaching, which is what we are all about, we are open to new things and know that they are good.

So I am changing my thinking and now know Facebook as good. Good for Conscious Kernels. Good to spread the word about what we offer and what good we can do for people.

Our Facebook page is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Conscious-Kernels-Inc/204994119513805?sk=wall

Please become a fan by "liking" us. We will still be playing around with the settings, so please be patient with us. And if you are on Facebook, please let your Facebook friends know about us.

A new and exciting adventure for Conscious Kernels. (And when I recover from this, we will tackle Twitter!)

Blessings to all.

We still have DVDs!

Dear Conscious Kernels friends,
As you may be aware, we used to offer spiritual and enlightening DVDs through Amazon.com as part of our efforts to bring you all kinds of ways to encourage, enhance and advance your personal spiritual growth. Yes, used to. Past tense.

Well, Amazon has decided to cut all ties with anyone or any business residing in a state that charges sales tax for items bought on the internet (or mail order) and shipped to that state. (We are talking physical products here -- not digital downloads.) Conscious Kernels resides in one such state and Amazon had decreed that it will no longer do business with us. Therefore, we have removed our hand-selected picks of Amazon DVDs from our website.

But, have no fear, we are still partnered with Spiritual Cinema Circle and SpiritClips.

Spiritual Cinema Circle is like the old Columbia Music House in that it is a monthly membership and you get DVDs instead of CDs or audiotapes. And, of course, they specialize in spiritual and uplifting movies. There is a free one-month trial, so it hurts nothing to try it out and see if it is for you.

SpiritClips is an awesome view-on-demand movie site where you can watch videos and movies over the internet (sort of like NetFlix). In addition to the on-demand streaming movies, there are electronic video greeting cards and other great things. Check that out too.

Just go to the same DVD page at ConsciousKernels.com and click on the links there. We even have a video sample from Spiritual Cinema Circle right on our page.

So as one door closes, another door opens. Right action is always taking place and this is just another example of it! I think you will enjoy what both SCC and SpiritClips have to offer.

More website changes coming soon -- stay tuned!!

Until next time,
Namaste

April Idea of the Month

How are you enjoying our communal spiritual practice of following, reading, and studying "365 Science of Mind" every day?

I have found it to be a great daily reminder of the Truth of Life and of myself.  I am communing with Spirit more often each day. I consult Spirit. I direct the Law. I affirm the truth of the Goodness of God more often. Isn't that a better way to go through life?

This month of April is the month of Renewal in "365". That goes with spring quite nicely. Renewal is wonderful. This idea allows to mind to remember that there is hope and fulfillment. That it is never too late for anything. That the past does not equal the future -- or even the present -- for that matter. That out of seeming negative appearances can come positive advancements.

So I invite you to pick something in your life that you would like to have new thinking about. Maybe it is your job or your spouse. Renew your commitment to being outstanding at what you do or your commitment to love.

As I wrote in the Feature Article for this month's newsletter, start paying attention to an area of your life you want to be more than average. Pick that area to have a new idea about -- a new mental equivalent. Spring is such a wonderful time to have new ideas about many areas of your life. Shed the winter clothes and have a new-found respect for you body. Clean out your home and circulate things you no longer need, and in the process, make room for new things to come into your life.

What do you want to have a new idea about? Share your thoughts -- post a comment.

Until next time,
Namaste

Celebrate "Read An E-Book" Week -- March 6-12, 2011

This is our second year of promoting "Read An E-Book" week. Why don't you celebrate by buying a few ebooks?!!

Here are some of the benefits of e-books: (courtesy of Sara Rosso)

Mobility

Carry your entire library in your pocket: With disk space quickly becoming a commodity, and the size of portable device hard drives getting bigger and bigger, its conceivable to think that you could have your entire library with you and have it accessible to your fingertips.
Backup a copy of your library with an online backup service: Backing up your entire library online or locally won't require much space and it's something that would be impossible with a physical library, and no more worries about fire-proofing your books.
Saving Physical Space
Your Library is as Big as your Disk Drive: As a bit of a nomad, I've changed house several times in my life, and each time I've had to give away parts or all of my library. Your library can grow as big as the disk space you have available and will be relatively small compared to walls and walls of bookshelves. And, due to disk space becoming a commodity, it's safe to say you'll probably never run out of space to store your library in your lifetime.
Convenience
Keep it? Throw it Away? It's just Bits: Now, you won't have the guilt of having to give away or throw out that paper book you couldn't finish. Keeping an electronic book will take up so little space you're allowed a few mistakes, and hopefully it will allow you to experiment with different types of authors and genres.
Your Next Book is just Moments Away: Bringing hundreds of books with you wherever you are means you never have to plan ahead for that long trip or even the bus ride across town. When you've finished one book, quickly browse your library and start another!
Saving Time & Money
No Shipping Costs or Wait Time: This is a much easier argument for me to prove living as an expat with book prices being astronomical in a non-English speaking country. But, remember that when you eliminate the need for shipping that book to where you physically are, there will be some cost benefits.
Save Gas, Save Time: Also, buying electronically will inevitably save you gas by not going to a physical bookstore, and time as from selection to purchase and reading an electronic book can be done in mere minutes.
Ease-of-Use
Not all ebook software is exactly the same, but many of them have similar settings and features that are common:
Adjust Font Size for any Eyes: Adjust the font size, type and background color of your electronic book per your preferences.
Add Notes, Bookmarks or Highlight: Instead of earmarking pages or marking up your paper copy, electronic copies allow you to add and delete bookmarks and notes at will and as many as you see fit.
Searchable and Linkable Text: The text is searchable and can be hyperlinked, you can jump back-and-forth between chapters or the glossary.
I will add one myself: SAVE SOME TREES!

Now get out there and celebrate!

March Idea of the Month

For those of you who are not signed up for the free monthly eNewsletter (and why aren't you?!!), we continue with the study of "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes. This book has a page-long essay or treatment or prayer or profound understanding of truth (whatever you would like to call it) for every day of the year. March is the month of Faith. Faith is believing without question or doubt. We put our faith in a lot of things, but the best thing to put our faith in is the Unconditional Givingness and Infinite Intelligence of Spirit.

This month's article is about Divine Guidance. If we have faith in a power that is all-intelligent and all-giving, we can put our lives in the hands of Divine Guidance without hesitation because we know that wherever Divine Guidance leads us, it will be in our highest good. An all-intelligent, all-loving being could not send us down any other path.

The key, as Ernest Holmes wrote in "365" is to realize Its presence and make use of it. We should take advantage of a Divine Mind, which is within us, to guide our lives. Give it a chance to communicate with you. Take some time to listen to it.

When has listening to Divine Guidance helped you? Share your experience with us. Post your comments below.

Until next time,

February Idea of the Month

February has been associated with Love and Valentine's Day for a long time. And as we continue with the daily spiritual practice of reading 365 Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes, he calls February the month of Love.

Ernest Holmes defines Love as "the self-givingness of the Spirit through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of creation." What does that mean exactly?

If God is all and all is God, then Love is the givingness of God, and if God is everything, It can only give Itself to Itself -- that is the self-givingness. Then what is it giving to Itself? It is giving expression. It is giving Life the ability to express through creation. It is giving Its creation the ability to express more creation creatively. That is Divine Love.

And what falls under the category of expressing creatively is Us and all possibilities. We have been given limitless potential to express anything and the way we express is by creating and being creative.

This gift from the All-givingness of God has already been given. Have you opened your arms to receive it?

Until next time,

January Idea of the Month

What is the significance of a new year? If we live only in the present moment, does it matter that a new year is starting on the calendar?

We live in a world of time and space, physically. Our spirit is timeless and ageless. But we also have a physical aspect to our being and that exists in a world of time and space. So a new year can be an opportunity for our spiritual selves to remind our physical selves that it is always a new something. A new year, a new month, a new week, a new day, a new hour, a new minute, a new second. A new present moment.

And with every new thing is a chance for a new beginning. But the only way it is going to be a new beginning is to think something new and/or do something new. And why can't that something new be of the spiritual growth slant?

What could you do in the way of starting a new spiritual practice? For one thing, you can join us each month via the Conscious Kernels newsletter to follow "365 Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes, a book that has an idea and page-long affirmation for each day of the year. Holmes picks a subject for each month and, no surprise, January is Beginnings. This is your opportunity to think something new for an entire month.

So if you have not subscribed to the free electronic newsletter, do so using the form to the right. And begin your new spiritual practice for 2011 with us.

Happy New Year and New Moment to All!

Until next time,
Namaste
