December Idea of the Month

Be the illumination in your life.

At this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, the days are short and the nights are long. That means we need and use a lot more artificial light. I just set up a few Christmas decorations in the house and the decorations I like best are the candles and strings of mini-lights. I tend to turn off the lamps and let these twinkling lights illuminate the room. But why do I like that?

To me, it just seems more magical. More special. More cozy. But spiritually, keeping the room lights low allows me to focus on the soft glow of a candle flame and the pinpoint spots of illumination from the strings of lights. I observe and surround myself in those lights. And light, metaphysically speaking, is knowledge. It is wisdom. Light is understanding. It is one of the qualities of God. At this time of year when sunlight is scarce, it actually makes me think more about it. I can be the light in my life. I can be the wisdom and understanding of Truth. I can pay more attention to it and let my spiritual understanding expand.

Light a candle for yourself. Be the light in your life. Shine light on the world. It needs more understanding and wisdom.
Happy Holidays to all.

Until next time,
Namaste

New book coming soon!

We are thrilled to announce a new title from Conscious Kernels coming soon: The Metaphysical Power of the Runes.

Are you familiar with the Runes? These ancient symbols first found carved on rocks around 150 A.D. are thought to be an alphabet of sorts and have been used more recently by New Age enthusiasts for divination purposes.

This exciting new book will show you the connection between casting Rune stones and getting in touch with the Indwelling Spirit. Through the insightful metaphysical, New Thought interpretations found only in this book, you can communicate with the Spirit within you. This new science is the first of its kind!

Find out what is going on with your subconscious mind; ask for guidance from Infinite Intelligence, all through the channel of the Runes. Empower your spoken affirmations with the assistance of the symbols of the Runes which can connect directly with your subconscious. Speak directly to your subjective mind through the use of runic symbols.

Author P.J. Caiden has taken his vast knowledge of the traditional Runes, his experience as a certified hypnotherapist, and his insights and understandings of New Thought principles to create a one-of-a-kind book designed to help readers in all areas of their lives.

This is a magnificent new tool for all of us to learn to use in our continuing journey of spiritual growth. Conscious Kernels is excited and honored to offer this new book to the public.

Just for our Conscious Kernels friends, pre-order your copy now. Sign up now to get on the waiting list, and you will receive a 30% discount when the book goes on sale. Pay nothing now. But get on the list. The discount will only be available for the first three weeks the book goes on sale.

November Idea of the Month

Gratitude is associated with the month of November in the U.S. because of the Thanksgiving holiday. It still amazes me that Abraham Lincoln had the insight to create a national holiday just for giving thanks.

We all have much to be thankful for. Let us all see everything we can be grateful for. Recognize it. It will change your mental atmosphere and change your life.

What do you have to say about gratitude? It is not just platitudes! Gratitude is a spiritual force. It is an attracting power. It is easy to do. Add gratitude to your spiritual practice. It is a pure and simple communion with God.

(I am grateful to everyone who reads this blog and takes the time to comment!)

Until next time.

October Idea of the Month

This month in the newsletter I talk about Choice.

Choice is one of the greatest powers we have been given by Spirit. Choice determines and changes your life. Your choice of thoughts, your choice of feelings, your choice of beliefs, and your choice of actions. Each and every one of these will determine what happens in your life.

How much conscious attention do you give to your choices? Or are you one of the many people who go through life with the "I've always done it this way" mantra? "I've always been this way." "I've always thought this way."

Now is a great time to think about your choices and WHY you choose what you choose. If you do a little digging, you may find some very silly or outdated reasons for your choices.

Now I don't want to get all political in this blog, but I have to say, for those of us in the United States, we have a choice coming up on Nov. 2. It is called election day. Your choice to even choose to vote is critical. And once you get into that voting booth, your choices in there will profoundly affect your life and the lives of everyone in this country. I won't tell you how to vote (although I would like to!), but I ask that you at least become conscious of your choices and the outcomes of your choices. Think about the future that will result from your choices. Think about what we went through under 8 years of a Republican administration and what a mess was left in its wake. Think about what a Republican control of Congress would be like for the next 2 years: political games and nothing getting done -- I only say this because they have actually promised to do nothing. Can you guess which way I suggest you vote?

The result of this election will reflect the collective consciousness of the United States. Do we want to protect our environment, end wars, help the sick, protect the average citizen, educate our children, and respect our seniors OR are we back to a consciousness of every man for himself regardless of the damage it may cause to the planet and our fellow human beings?

It will be interesting to see where our consciousness is. I know where my conscious choice is. I plan to tally it in the voting booth. I invite you to do the same.

Until next time.

September Idea of the Month

This month we are talking about a recommitment to the Truth.

It is not unusual to get caught up in our human intellect which judges based on appearances alone.

This recommitment to the Truth is to look beyond mere appearances and to realize and recognize that there is more to Life than just the appearance. We can know that behind every seeming limitation is the Limitlessness of Spirit. Behind every appearance of illness is health. Behind every appearance of lack is abundance. Behind every appearance of disharmony is harmony. Behind every appearance of failure is success.

Yes, we deal with the reality of the appearance, but we think and believe and act from the place of the Ultimate and Absolute Truth.

We don't ignore the appearance, but we see it for what it really is: a conditional, temporary, physical effect. Not absolute. Not permanent. Not cause.

If we believe only what we see, we will only get more of the same. We can change any physical effect when we start from Spiritual Cause. Know the Truth that there is only Good operating in this Universe.

Share in the discussion. Post your comments.

August Idea of the Month

This month we are talking about looking for, waiting for and getting impatient about our demonstrations. We have sowed our seeds, we have planted our ideas and desires in mind and so now, where are they?

We keep waiting for them. We keep looking for them. We keep asking, where is the manifestation we want so badly.

I know this may be hard to do, but hang in there. Even though you may not see your demonstration in physical form just yet, do not assume it is not there or on its way to you. The physical form is the last part of the creative process. It is the natural outcome of what is done in Mind. Stay within yourself and know your desires are met and exceeded by the perfect outpicturing of the Law.

Let the Law do its work and know it is happening in the perfect way at the perfect time. And in this perfect timing, YOU are becoming the person you need to be in order for this demonstration to take place. You are growing into your demonstration, so give yourself the kindness of allowing this growth.

Keep doing your best, giving your best and you cannot help but be rewarded. Keep that in mind.

What are your thoughts? Is that too Pollyanna-ish? Post your comments. Let's get a conversation going!

July Idea of the Month

Well of course, July's Idea of the Month would be about freedom. Ultimately, that is what leading a spiritually-guided life is all about. Spirit is free and as we work toward advancing our spiritual growth, we work toward advancing our freedom. Freedom of choice, freedom of thought, freedom of expression. No matter our current circumstances, we have freedom of thought. We always have and we always will. One great example of this is the classic: Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning." This is about surviving the Nazi concentration camps and how the thinking and mental attitude of every person Frankl encountered affected their ultimate survival or not in the camp.

This is an extreme example. But we must continue to remind ourselves that we have the freedom to choose every thought we have, and every emotion we feel. Do not give up that freedom. Do not let this freedom go to waste.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Post your response.

Until next time, Namaste

June Idea of the Month and Feature Article

Priorities.
The idea of the month.
Pretty simple. The priority is: put God first.

How do you do that? One way I can think of as putting God first is inviting God to participate in my daily tasks. Ask for God's help. Declare your tasks completed easily and effortlessly. Envision the perfect outcome. All before you actually do anything!

God is perfect. God never makes a mistake. If you invite perfection to help you out with something, how can it turn out any way other than perfect??

The tricky part is remembering to do this. To ask. To invite. To declare.

Tell me what you think. Comment on this post. You don't need a Google account to comment. (somehow in the past you needed to have a Google account -- some oversight or change by Blogger I was not aware of -- to post a comment but not any more!)

Until next time,
Namaste

May Idea of the Month

So we are talking vibes. Vibration. Energy. The Law of Attraction. Like attracting Like. Being in harmony. Being in synch with our good. We have to be on the same vibrational wavelength as our good if we are going to attract it. And we have to change our vibrational wavelength if we are going to release the stuff in our lives that we don't want or that isn't in our highest good.

The clarification on this idea is that it is not the vibration that causes the attraction. The vibration is the physical manifestation of that which causes the attraction. The vibration is just the law which is carrying out the means.

The real cause, the real thing that sets the vibration in motion is Consciousness. Consciousness is First Cause. There are ways to raise our consciousness. That in turn would change the energy, the vibration, the wavelength. Always begin with consciousness and the Law (in whatever form) will carry out its mission of creation.

What are your thoughts?

Until next time, Namaste.

April Idea of the Month

April's idea of the month is renewal. For some reason, I am filled with joy and wonder when I think about the word renewal. It is such a hopeful and life-affirming word!

We can always be renewed! It is never too late for anything or anyone. Past mistakes and hurts can be let go. The past does not equal the future. There is unlimited possibilities. Spring springs eternal. There is always another spring. Growth and green never stops.

Make all things new in your life.

We also talk about fear and opportunity in the newsletter feature article. Do new opportunities strike fear in your heart? We want them, we ask for them, we pray for them, we treat for them (opportunities, that is) but when they present themselves to us, we reject them, we do not accept them, we run from them. All because of fear. Where does that fear come from? From the very strong belief that we can be separate and separated from our good. That something bad may happen if we accept this opportunity. Not that something bad will happen, but MAY happen. We are predicting failure before it even happens, before we even try.

We must make our belief in our unity with God (Good) stronger than our belief in separation and bad. Yes, easier said than done.

What do you think? How do you overcome fear? Or are you stuck in fear?
Write your comments.

Until next time,
Namaste

Read an E-Book Week coming up!

Participate next week in "Read an E-Book Week" by purchasing one or more Conscious Kernels ebooks! Go to www.consciouskernels.com

Yes, a shameless plug! But I couldn't help myself when I saw the Darwin picture promo. E-books ARE the natural evolution of books. They are environmentally conscious too. Yes, it takes electricity from some power source to access and read ebooks, but think of all the resources used to print, bind, distribute, display and visit bookstores to buy paper books. No contest.

This National Week announcement also give me the opportunity to announce that several Conscious Kernels titles are now available in new formats. If you have an iPhone, PalmPilot, Sony e-Book Reader, or another eBook Reader device, you will thrilled to know that you can now get the perfect file format for those readers at the Conscious Kernels store at smashwords.com. That's right! Epub format. LRF format. PBD format. Mobi format.

And to honor Read an E-book Week, you can get these titles at 25% for the duration of that week. Just plug in the coupon code "RAE25" when you buy on smashwords. Note: this offer is only good at the Conscious Kernels Smashwords store and only March 7 - 13, 2010. So go buy a Conscious Kernels ebook and then read it!

Have fun!

March Idea of the Month

So is the Law of Reciprocity (which we discuss in the newsletter and as the Idea of the Month) harsh? Is it tough love? Is it payback?

A law is a law. Do we say that the law of gravity is hard on us? Yes, if you jump off a 10-story building. No, if you do not want to float off into space. In other words, it is our use of a law that makes it good or bad for us. The law just works, at all times in all places.

And laws are here to work for us. The Law of Attraction. The Law of Reciprocity. The Law of Compensation. They are mathematically precise and work the same way for everyone. Laws do not pick and choose when to work or for whom to work.

Do you believe these laws exist? Share your thoughts.

Leadership Conference, Part 2

Well, I'm back home in Chicago. Didn't get a chance to blog during the second half of the week in Denver.

The ICSL Congress on Wednesday did not disappoint. There were some ruffling of feathers as predicted. Drawn-out discussions on parliamentary procedures. Proposals voted for and proposals voted down. Hopefully all is now smoothed out for all concerned.

Thursday's open discussion was not really an open discussion. We broke off into smaller groups based on questions posed by the audience. I ended up in a group that discussed the whole "church" label and organizational structure. It was very interesting. Most of the group felt that "church" might not be the best way to describe this movement. (One of the reasons the organization changed its name to Centers for Spiritual Living). We are more of a teaching, a philosophy of life. We considered more educational names like "institute" "center", etc.

I have to admit, when I tell friends or co-workers that I go to "church" or I am President of the Board of Trustees at my "church", I half-feel obligated to follow that up immediately with "but it's not what you think, or it's not your typical church, or it's not your average church." How do you sum that up in a 5-word slogan?

Science of Mind, New Thought, Religious Science are all hard to describe most people. It is not what people grew up on. I hope that changes soon.

In all, the Leadership Conference was an experience that will continue to have an influence on my thinking and how I approach things as I continue to reflect back on it. It is something where the true ramifications may not be known for some time. It will continue to evolve and grow within me.

Next stop: Summer Conference here in Chicago July 26 - 30. I'll need the time to prepare!

Here at the Denver Leadership Conference

Well, this is Day 2 of the ICSL (International Centers for Spiritual Living) and UCSL (United Centers for Spiritual Living) combined Leadership Conference. It is sunny out and all I want to do right now is find a nice comfortable chair in the sun. But alas, there isn't one so I thought I would blog instead!

I am attending the Leadership Conference in the capacity of Board of Trustees President of the Oak Park Church of Religious Science. So far I have attended general sessions which are turning out to be workshops on our "stuff" and one break-out session for laity. Not exactly what I came here for. Where is learning how to be a better leader? Getting people involved and enthusiastic about becoming a member of a Center for Spiritual Living? But the main attraction of this Leadership Conference is that it is the first one these two sister organizations have held together.

I did attend the official business meeting of UCSL even though we are an ICSL-member church. It was interesting albeit not very substantive. Mostly budget and operating expenses talk.

Tomorrow and Thursday, we will be getting into the heart of the matter. ICSL has its Annual Congress tomorrow inwhich I am sure there will be heated discussion about the whole subject of integration. (That is: ICSL and UCSL merging into one entity). There are several proposals on the table that will challenge the timing of this merger and other pre-conditions to the merger. I am a delegate at the conference and get one vote on all the motions coming before the group.

Then on to a tour of the UCSL headquarters in Golden and the Wednesday night service at Mile Hi Church (a UCSL mega-church here in Denver).

Thursday will bring an open discussion about integration which is sure to be a lively debate.

We have walked around the surrounding hotel area a little bit. There is not much time between sessions. We hope to do more of that on Friday before we leave.

Stay tuned for updates on the ICSL Congress taking place Wednesday.

Until then,
Namaste

February Idea of the Month

This month, we talk about the habit of "thinking less than" of ourselves. We are pretty good at it. Is it because that's what we are used to? Is it because it is the norm of our culture? It is because we've done it all our lives?

Would "thinking greater" of ourselves be such a stretch? Could we give it a try and see what happens? Can we connect with our inner knowing, with our higher self, with God which would lead to thinking greater about ourselves?

This is not an ego thing or a self-centered thing. In fact, it is the opposite. When you connect with the Infinite Greatness of God, you become humble and come to an understanding that "it is the Father within that doeth the work." All goodness, all greatness comes from God.

Share your thoughts.
(You do not need a Google account to comment. And you can post anonymously. Oh, and you may have noticed, we added little voting buttons beneath each post so you can quickly record your reaction. Check away!)

January Idea of the Month

Happy New Year to all.

2010: metaphysically is comprised of the number 2 which represents polarity and balance and 1 which is unity and the zeros are amplifications of the 2 and the 1. The number 10 also means perfection. So this year is a wonderful opportunity to understand our balance and unity within ourselves and with others.

Which brings me to the Jan. newsletter feature article: "I'm OK, You're OK". No, this is not a review of the late 1960's pop psychology book by the same title (although I do have a copy of that book and should read it sometime!).

"I'm OK" is the very important ability to be self-accepting and self-approving which leads to self-worth and self-love. It is a high form of self-contemplation, which, if you have been reading my posts from way-back, is what it all boils down to.

Self-contemplation will determine what you create in your life. What you manifest with your thoughts and feelings. It is the cornerstone according to me and Thomas Troward!

So let's do a little less beating up on ourselves and this change in consciousness will also lead to a better relationship with all others. ("You're OK")

Read the whole article and you will see how this works. Sign up for the newsletter on the right of this page. Then go to the archives for the January issue.

Peace. Peace in your heart and Peace on Earth.

Until next time,
Namaste
